Your new belt is made from full-grain leather, which - unlike synthetic leathers - is completely natural. While some slightly irresponsible owners choose to never clean their belts (I used to be one of them!), we recommend occasionally conditioning your belt in order to keep it looking its best, and ensuring its longevity. This guide will walk you through the exact steps on how to keep your belt in good shape, so that it looks its best and lasts you long into the future.
Pre-Condition:
Before you condition your belt, you'll want to clean it. To achieve this, use a damp cloth (preferably microfiber, but regular cloths can work too) along with some gentle soap or belt cleaner to firmly but gently wipe the surface dirt and stains off. Please do not use any cleaning utensils that can damage the belt - only use a cloth unless you're certain the belt won't be damaged. Make sure you allow the belt to completely dry before you proceed to the next step.
Conditioning:
Conditioning your belt is extremely simple! Once the belt is fully clean and dry, open the tub of leather conditioner that you will have received in the package, alongside your belt. If you no longer have any of this conditioner left, you can purchase more via our website, or use any other leather conditioner on the market (at your own risk). In order to condition your belt, apply a very small amount of the leather conditioner to your cloth and begin rubbing your belt in circular motions. Allow the conditioner to sit for 5-10 minutes, and then use a new cloth to wipe the excess off. If using another brand of conditioner, it is wise to apply the product on a small area first to test whether the product works properly for your belt's specific leather type and colour. Ensure you regularly condition your belt in order to keep it looking its best.
Storage:
After conditioning your belt, ensure you store it in a cool and dry place, away from the sun. While your belt can be rolled up for short periods of time (such as when we ship it to you), avoid keeping your belt in this position for too long. Instead, lay your belt out flat (if you have the space), hang it on a hook by the buckle, or drape it over a rounded object. This will ensure your belt doesn't deform.
Repairs:
If your belt has a small scratch or other blemish, applying the leather conditioner should be enough to hide it completely. If you can still see the scratch after conditioning, it's best to immediately reach out to us at info@beltbrothersnz.com or through our Instagram account, @beltbrothersofficial, so that we can discuss a custom repair solution and get your belt back in great shape. Note that we cannot state a repair price due to all cases being unique. For a quote, please reach out to us and a friendly member of our team will assist you.
